Natural indigo · Sakon Nakhon
Cloth dyed in a living vat
Cold-fermented, one hundred percent natural indigo — woven and resist-dyed by hand, so no two pieces are alike.
From plant to cloth
A slow craft, made by hand
The dye is a living vat. Yarn is lifted to the air, where it turns from green to deep blue before your eyes.
The house of Kram
Living indigo from Sakon Nakhon
The blue comes from the kram plant — a cold, fermented, wholly natural vat tended by hand. Sakon Nakhon is recognised by the World Crafts Council as a World Craft City for Natural Indigo.
How it is made
Raising an indigo vat is like raising a child
The vat is alive. It is fed, kept warm, and read each morning by its colour and scent. Cloth is folded, bound, and lowered in — then lifted to the air, where it turns from green to deep blue before your eyes.
